New Army Structure
It is a common belief that the Sri Lankan Tri-Forces (land Army, Navy, and Air armed forces) main function is to defend and serve the nation by land, sea and air. To serve the nation; meaning to protect the population against any potential danger. After all, the members and equipment of the Tri-Forces are paid for entirely by population taxes; one could therefore correctly assume that the Tri-Forces would serve the interests of the population. Unfortunately, the reality is otherwise...
The Tri-Forces are directly commanded by the government to serve the government's own purposes. As the government is heavily corrupted by greed and private interest, the Tri-Forces end up protecting the government from the people... This is complete nonsense since the government is employed and also paid by the taxes of the people... Therefore, not only Sri Lanka urgently needs a reform of the governmental structure, but so does the Tri-Forces!
The main root cause of any social unrest event or country invasion is the illegal acquisition of power and resources. Armies have always been justified to prevent, unsuccessfully, this to happened. Nowadays, power and resources are stolen from countries through corporate finance loans from the IMF, World Bank and the likes, which are in fact, legalized criminal practices.
Armies still exist for two main reasons: to create the illusion of security among the population and because wars are still extremely profitable to those who organize them. War and its financing are among the most profitable industries in the world (USD 2 Trillions per year)... But for those paying to maintain an army, the social and physical cost is phenomenal! If a small fraction of the planetary military budget were spent on food, peace and resource sharing, then hunger, poverty and war would be eradicated from the planet...
Peace is cheaper to make than war, but far less lucrative for the warmongers, hence why we still have war on earth!
Sri Lanka would greatly benefit to convert its Tri-Forces into Rescue-Forces. Instead of being trained to combat and blindly follow instruction, the “Rescuers” (much better word than “Military”), would be trained to think and imagine innovative and peaceful solutions to help and rescue the people facing difficulties.
When they are not in training or rescue mission, the Rescuers would work in Nationalized industries, thus helping producing and providing goods and services for the Sri Lankan population. By doing so, the military budget, which was only a pure expense, would now become a source of potential net income for the country!
Established by the needs of the people, a national real-time, open-source database would be created, to list by priority and state of emergency, all current problems to be solved and products required by the people of Sri Lanka. By using this national database as a list of actions to do, the Rescuers would then work directly for the population and not under the tutelage of members of the government.
