New Education Structure
The purpose of education is to pass on moral values and knowledge to someone else and to ensure that the new information is understood and can be applied. For centuries, knowledge has been recorded on scrolls, clay tablets, books... all located in physical places (school, temple, library...). The students were therefore forced to go to these places to have access to this information.
The Internet and computing have revolutionized all of this. Now, it is the information and knowledge that are coming to us. It is no longer necessary to go to a specific place to acquire moral values and knowledge! It's a huge paradigm shift and our classic education system has become completely obsolete and inefficient! A major reform and restructuring of education is absolutely necessary!
A complete reassessment of the education system is needed. Students waste valuable time going to school. School buses create traffic, pollution and are expensive to operate and maintain. The school program is the same for everyone. It is based on a student average intellectual capacity and imposed on each and every students...
Students with lower ability become discouraged from trying to follow the group, while students with higher ability are slowed down by the group and get bored. Both types of students end up losing interest in classes... There is a simple solution to all of this!
An affordable $100 computer could be built in Sri Lanka and provided to every family with free basic internet access. All teaching materials, hardware and software, should be open source.
The teaching software and application must be developed as an entertaining interactive module and as addictive and fun as video games are. Students would learn from home, at their own pace, while having fun doing it.
Schools would only be used occasionally for sporting and collective events, for research and for practical applications or exercises that require equipment not available from home (art lessons, laboratory, gymnasium, etc.). It would still be possible to meet a teacher for practical exercises. All the theory would be learned at home. Any evaluation will be pragmatic and practical (no more theoretical evaluation).
A continuous and dynamic training program will be developed to keep teachers up to date with technology and teaching needs. Many schools will be converted into community education centers, art centers, community cooking centers or whatever best suits the needs of the community under the nationalized industry program.
